How does it save money?

Hydrawise saves money by adjusting the watering program to suit the current weather- every single day. It is a pro active controller that skips watering when rain is forecast, not just after rain has fallen like a time based controller with a rain sensor.

For home owners you no longer need to set your controller for the worst case scenario. Instead of setting it for 40C temps in Summer just in case, you can now set it for average temperatures, but if it is going to be hot the software will automatically increase the run times to suit the forecast temperature. If it’s going to be cooler it will reduce run times, and if rain is forecast it will skip watering altogether.

If you are a principal at a school with irrigated sports fields, commercial property manager at a large commercial site, or own an acreage property with a sprinkler system, you can possibly save thousands of dollars per year by upgrading your irrigation controller to a smart controller.

As an example a single football field will use around 20,000-30,000L of water per watering cycle, and will usually run 3-4 days per week. That is around $47- $70 saving each time it skips watering. Being conservative if it skips watering just 5 times over the next 3-4 months it will save over 100,000L of water. If it skips watering 10 times that’s around 200,000L of water saved. Factor in how many times it will reduce run times because it’s cooler than what it is set for and you are saving a huge amount of water.

Is your system going to shut off when rain is forecast, or only be reactive and turn off after it has already rained? Think of your system running for a full cycle at 2am when 20mm of rain is forecast to fall later that day. What a waste!

This will also keep your turf at its healthiest, and by being pro active and skipping when rain is forecast it will minimise the chances of having waterlogged turf and play/training having to be cancelled until the field dries out. You are also reducing running costs as the pump isn’t running, saving power and wear and tear on all components.

Temperatures in Sydney during Summer can range from being in the high 20’s one day and into the 40’s the next, especially in Western Sydney. The dongle tucks in behind the controller door so is secure and out of site, and most of all gives a reliable signal.
